Dziękuję

"Is this street art?"
The tattoo shop owner around the corner asked when I first started my installation.  Never thought that description would fit my art, but it is indeed art on the street.  Creating in public space is an extraordinary experience.  I was not only offered coke, coffee, and candies but also been approached numerous times to discuss about this huge piece of artwork in their neighborhood.  When art grows out of gallery, its impact and connection with people also becomes much stronger.  “The Unseen” has been revealed.  Please don’t ignore the call.

Yet the birth of my first land art is a similar but different process because nature took part in the creation.  When the materials are mainly broken branches and leaves and working partners are frogs, snails, and mosquitoes, it is inevitable to connect with the vibe of mother earth.  “A Twist of” offers an alternative way to look at life, death, being, and nature.  Once we are willing to twist our narrow mind, nothing will ever be the same.

Though each art mission requires more courage and energy to complete, I’m amazed what I’m willing to do for art.  Just a few months ago, who would have any idea that I would perform with foam stripes all over my body and dress up as an aboriginal/shamanic character to interact with the public?  Both street and land art deeply touched my heart during this period. I have a feeling this is going to be a major direction for my art.

After one week in Berlin, I will return to Barcelona for more art, love, and teaching.  How will this closure look compare to my “radiant blossom” last year around the same time?  Only one thing I’m certain – there is nothing to hold me back anymore.

Where do you belong?
The tobacco-rolling gang at another Polish city, Katowice.
Before it got crazy, I still had the luxury to paint and chill at a lovely cafe in Bielsko.
That's how it all began - collecting materials from a recycle center.
What a fashionable worker under the sun...
The monster octopus?!
The beginning process was all done in the ecologist's work space.  Thank you, Jacek!
The look of "The Unseen" before destruction and transformation.
In order to adapt to the somewhat hostile environment, the installation had to grow into a more vibrant form.

One must pay a visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp to witness the unspeakable history.  We did it one Saturday between works.
Such tragedy shall not repeat no more; yet wars are still going on as I type.
One of the destroyed gas chamber.  Yes, thousands of people were slaughtered there...
How can 8-9 people sleep on each "bed"?  Not to mention the hard wood on the top two levels & the cold cement on the bottom.
This rail took many to the path of destruction.
Rest in peace, souls in agony...

The artists & lake in Targowo, where we made art for 2 weeks.
The glorious wide sky.
Meditation in nature is an exceptional experience.  Simply be, my soul.
"Alive" - Mural grown between creative and destructive energy.
The mess had to start somewhere.
There is only a fine line between chaos and order in nature.
"A Twist of" - death in life in the arms of mother earth.

The communist Palace of Arts and Culture reminded me of the Empire State Building in New York City.
Graffiti is everywhere in Berlin.  This is just one good example on an abandoned train station.
The East Berlin Wall - though expressive murals are painted on this side, all the tragedies actually happened on the inside of the wall.
Lollipops and the cathedral - a great way to celebrate 150 years of Berlin.
Cold & concrete memorial for all the Jews who were killed in WWII.
I not only cycled in Berlin but also followed my host into the forest to look for location for his next Goa party.
The past two months were filled with sweats and laughters.  Will miss you all dearly, my friends!

T'estimo

“Sometimes, to lose balance for love is part of living balance in life.”

The morning following my first introduction lecture and performance in Bielsko-Biala, my mind started dancing bright early and finally dragged me out of bed around 7am.  Great, the perfect time for catching this slogan, finishing the movie Eat, Pray, Love, and writing it all down.

Since this is an artist residency, I have been walking around and brainstorming what to make in this little Polish city the past 1.5 week.  My concept involves using old abandoned buildings in the city, so permission has to be granted from the officials.  Who knows if I can actually work on them or have to change this and that to fit the regulation?  I’m not really worried.  One way or the other, art will grow through me to meet the world.

Seeing Julia Roberts travel through cities to find herself reminds me of my own time this past year.  After all the wild experience, I also met my love.  Perhaps it’s silly to think too far ahead.  When you meet that special someone who touches your soul and sparks up that fierce passion within you, what else can you do but to love and be loved?

Now is the moment to live.  Let it be.  Miss him as your heart moves, send him your soothing vibe, meditate to simply be who you are, experiment your body in performance, create the form that has been growing in your subconscious…

Whatever life brings to you, behold and flow.

Et trobo a faltar!
My usual sight in Sitges everyday!
My beloved David was about to open a cafe, so I tried to help as much as possible.  Here I was working on two doors.
To be honest, I actually quite enjoyed painting the bench.
Let's check out the wine cellar of the supplier, baby.
The not-so-manual process of the wine.
Most people would be thrilled about this kind of wine tasting, but I was more excited about the biscuit sticks which were served with the wine.
More self-amusement while waiting for friends, lalala...
Always an enjoyable time with lovely Linda!
Why so serious, my love?
I made the lunch for my favorite people in Barcelona. Yup!
Lin Lin, miss you already. :P
Artist making quick portraits for the cafe!
I maybe the only Asian in the series, but is there something wrong with my eyes or what?
What kind of face would be appropriate when you miss the stop to your destination?
The main street of Bielsko-Biała.
Both Kostas & I love this gallery bar.
The back terrace is an awesome place to chill!
Do you find this old town square a little messy?
Abandoned buildings are my target.  What kind of art will grow on them?  Permission is the question.
Without any specific instruction, I went on the quest for the lake.
Though the lake wasn't exactly what I expected, at least I got some sun, swim & green!
How wonderful is this moment.
What do you think about life?
Charming night view of the city.
Nice company, delicious food, beautiful view...  what more do you want?
The Spanish artists, Juan & Naza, working hard on their mural.
Two connected coffees in "little Vienna".
Best dessert in town to wrap up Conney's 3-days visit.
Thank you for all the joy, comfort, and laughters you brought, my dear!
